Experts approve Janssen COVID-19 vaccine

The Janssen COVID-19 shot has been publicly approved for international use by UN health agency expert advisory board, SAGE. 

Experts also alleviated concerns over clotting events that are being linked with COVID-19 vaccines by some countries, without conclusive evidence. During a virtual press conference, SAGE acknowledged the single-dose Janssen vaccine as a safe and lifesaving addition to the three vaccines already approved for use - the Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca shots. During the Janssen vaccine trials, which included around 44,000 individuals, 10 of the 22,000 people who were given the blank dose developed a blood clot while 14 of the remaining 22,000 who were vaccinated, developed a clot. “This is about the same”, for both groups, stated Dr Annelies Wilder-Smith, SAGE Technical Advisor… (UN, March 17, 2021)
