Interval between doses of Covishield increased to 4-8 weeks in India

The Indian Government has decided to increase the interval between the two doses of Covishield vaccine to four to eight weeks, stated the Health Ministry.

According to the ministry, the protection is increased if the second dose of the vaccine is given between 6-8 weeks, but not later than 8 weeks, considering the existing scientific evidence. The Center has directed states and union territories to increase the interval between two doses of Covishield on the basis of recommendations of National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) and National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for Covid-19 (NEGVAC). For the indigenously developed COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin, the existing interval of 4-6 weeks will continue… (ET Healthworld – IANS, March 22, 2021)
