First locally acquired COVID-19 case in Australia in a week

Australia reported its first locally acquired COVID-19 case on Friday, in more than a week, as a 26-year-old man tested positive. Authorities have imposed restrictions on hospitals, retirement homes and disability centers after the finding.

The person infected with the virus has been infectious for a week but was mostly isolated at home since Monday after he developed symptoms, stated Queensland state Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk. Visitors will not be allowed in hospitals and retirement homes in state capital Brisbane, with effect from Friday. Authorities have urged people to wear masks indoors and when using public transport. The authorities have also issued health alerts for shopping centers, a restaurant as well as supermarkets exposed to the virus as officials track down the source of the infection… (Reuters, March 26, 2021)
