India witnesses highest COVID-19 contact rate

With the surge in COVID-19 cases, India seems to be witnessing the highest coronavirus contact rate globally, with one infected person infecting another one every two days. 

The huge jump in contact rate this month is a concern, as per the Indian Supermodel for COVID-19. The new analysis through the model, started by the Department of Science of Technology, has predicted the peak of the second wave by mid-April, when daily cases will reach 70,000 to 80,000, largely driven by the state of Maharashtra. Scientists evaluating the model have stated that the cause of this unexpected rise in contact rate appears to be a combination of increased crowding in public placesas well as faster spreading mutations… (The New Indian Express, March 26, 2021)
