Eight states account for 84% of COVID-19 cases in India

Eight states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka and Punjab, have reported high daily COVID-19 case numbers, accounting for 84.5% of the 68,020 new cases registered in the country in a single day, stated the Union health ministry on Monday. 

Maharashtra reported the highest daily spike of 40,414 COVID-19 cases, followed by Karnataka with 3,082 cases, Punjab with 2,870, Madhya Pradesh with 2,276, Gujarat with 2,270, Kerala with 2,216, Tamil Nadu with 2,194 and Chhattisgarh with 2,153 cases. The total active caseload in the country stood at 5,21,808, comprising 4.33% of the total infections.

Meanwhile, the total vaccination coverage in India has crossed the 6 crore mark… (ET Healthworld – PTI, March 30, 2021)
