COVID-19 Surge in 11 States, Union Territories is of Grave Concern: Center

The COVID-19 situation in eleven states and union territories, which account for 90% of new cases and 90.5% COVID-related deaths reported over the last fortnight, is of grave concern, stated Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba.

The states and UTs where the surge is particularly concerning include Maharashtra, Punjab, Kerala, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi. The situation was most worrying in Maharashtra, Punjab and Chhattisgarh. The three states together registered more than 50,000 of the 81,466 new COVID infections that the Center on Friday morning said had been detected across the country in the previous 24 hours.
