Netherlands stops use of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for people aged below 60

The Netherlands has temporarily suspended the use of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for people below 60 years of age after a woman who had received a dose of the vaccine died, stated the Health Ministry.

Around 10,000 scheduled appointments for vaccinations have been canceled following the decision. The decision has come after new reports from medicine monitoring agency Lareb and discussions with health authorities, stated the Ministry.

Meanwhile, AstraZeneca was working with Dutch authorities to address any questions. Lareb stated on Friday that it has received five reports of thrombosis with low platelet counts following vaccinations with the AstraZeneca shot, including the death of a woman.
