A panel of experts is looking into any cases of blood clotting in India, even mild cases, occurring as a side effect of the two COVID-19 vaccines being administered in the country, reported Mint.

Currently AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, manufactured by the Serum Institute, branded as Covishield, and Bharat Biotech’s COVAXIN are being administered in the country. The review is being done following European drug regulator’s statement of a possible link between AstraZeneca’s vaccine and rare blood clotting events in adults who had been administered the shot. However, the regulator added that the vaccine’s benefits still outweighed the risks.

A report on the review will likely be ready by next week… (Reuters, April 9, 2021)
