Sepsis patients need Fluid therapy. Recent guidelines recommend the administration of crystalloids plus albumin for septic patients, but the optimal timing for albumin combined is still debatable. Zhou S. et al published a study investigating the association of timing of albumin combined with 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis.

The utilized the data of septic patients and categorized them into crystalloids group (crystalloids alone) and early combination group (crystalloids combined albumin at 0-24 h). The primary outcome of the study was set to 28-day mortality.

On comparing both the groups, the combination group showed increased survival among 28-day after ICU admission. Also that the first 24-h in the combination group was associated with prolonged Length Of Stay in ICU but lower risk of 28-day mortality contrasting those received crystalloids alone.

Thus it was concluded that administration of albumin combined within the first 24-h after crystalloids administration is associated with an increment of survival in 28 days, in septic patients.
