Never disclose a patient’s identity

It’s unethical to disclose a patient’s identity. The identity of a person is protected health information and must not be disclosed.

All patients have a right to confidentiality. The NABH/DMAI Patients’ Charter extends the right to privacy during examination and treatment to the patient. 

Additionally, the WMA 2005 Declaration of Lisbon on the Rights of the Patient corroborates this, stating that all identifiable information regarding a patients health status, medical condition, diagnosis, prognosis as well as treatment, besides all other information of a personal kind has to be kept confidential, even after death.
