India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage crosses 60 crore doses

More than 60 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in India thus far, tweeted Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. At the ongoing pace of vaccination, 32% of the country’s population will be vaccinated by the end of 2021.

However, the country will have to fully vaccinate 60% of its population by December to be able to avert a third wave of the pandemic. A total of 10.9 million doses need to be administered per day to achieve the December target, but last week saw only 4.8 million doses administered per day on average. A study conducted by the National Institute of Disaster Management predicts a spike in cases around October.

India has recorded more than 3.25 crore COVID-19 cases and over 4.35 lakh COVID-related deaths. Around 3.17 crore have recovered and the country has slightly more than 3.22 lakh active cases… (NDTV, August 26, 2021)
