According to England′s Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty, COVID-19 transmission at present seems to be the highest in children aged 12 to 15 years. Whitty stated that almost all unvaccinated children would contract the infection at some point.

While nearly half of the children have already had COVID-19, Whitty said that protection may diminish over time and a vaccination program would cause less disruption to schools compared to the children contracting COVID-19. All those in the 12-15 years age group in England are going to be offered a COVID-19 vaccine.
