Infants are frequently cleansed with Baby wipes as a hygiene practice. A Literature review assessed the benefits and drawbacks of baby wipes over water and cloth in terms of nappy rash, by utilizing a detailed analysis of baby wipe ingredients, since many skin irritants and allergens in baby wipes are already identified.

MedLine, Embase and PubMed were utilized to extract the eligible articles and baby wipes was found to be indicated superior to water and cloth in the majority of the literature. However, it was difficult to draw a definitive conclusion as many studies may be industry-funded.

Baby wipes have the most notable allergens as fragrances, like linalool, cocamidopropyl betaine (surfactant), formaldehyde-releasing preservatives and other preservatives (methylisothiazolinone and methylchloroisothiazolinone).

Since all the allergens are not listed on the label accurately, it may mislead the consumers.
