Kerala registers 7,124 fresh COVID infections, 201 deaths

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala registered 7,124 new COVID-19 cases and 201 COVID-related deaths, taking the total caseload to 50,15,505 and deaths to 33,716.

As 7,488 people recovered from the infection since Saturday, the overall recoveries in the state reached 49,08,857 and the active cases stood at 72,310 on Sunday, stated an official press release.

Of the 201 deaths, 21 were recorded over the last few days, while 153 were those which were not confirmed until June 18 last year because of inadequate documentation. Additionally, 27 were labeled as COVID deaths after appeals were received based on the new guidelines of the Center and Supreme Court directions.

Among the 14 districts, Ernakulam logged the highest number of cases at 1,061, followed by Thiruvananthapuram with 1,052 cases and Thrissur with 726 cases.

A total of 2,35,910 people are currently under surveillance in the state. Among these, 2,29,289 are in home or institutional quarantine and 6,621 are in hospitals.
