Gurugram: Man held for posing as doctor, selling abortion kits

Gurugram police arrested a man named Jitender for conducting illegal abortions in the New Colony area on the complaint filed by the medical department. He had studied till Class 12 and was practicing as a doctor at Shree Shyam Medical Store in Mandanpuri area for the past four years. He was illegally terminating pregnancy by providing abortion kits for the last six months.

A team comprising of medical and nodal officers was formed by Virender Yadav, civil surgeon of Gurugram. A couple was arranged as a decoy for the raid who signaled the medical department team on receiving the medical termination pack as per the plan.

Jitender confessed that he was not qualified as a doctor and was paying monthly charges to the medical store owner.

He has been arrested under sections of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, the Indian Medical Council Act and the Drugs and Cosmetic Act.
