An intense third wave with enormity comparable to first two not likely to hit India, says AIIMS Director

A huge third COVID-19 wave, with an enormity comparable to the first two waves, may not hit India, said AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria. He highlighted that there is presently no surge in cases, suggesting that vaccines are protective against the virus and a booster dose is not required as of now.

He added that the pandemic will take an endemic form with time, and though cases will continue to be reported, the severity will be considerably reduced. Meanwhile, NITI Aayog member (Health) Dr VK Paul said that the decision on a third vaccine dose should be based on science, adding that studies are being conducted on boosters and they are going through data and research… (India Today – PTI, November 24, 2021)
