COVID-19 cases increase by 23% in Americas

According to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), fresh COVID-19 infections have increased by 23% in the Americas over the last week. The rise has been particularly marked in North America where both the United States and Canada have been witnessing rising infection rates.

PAHO cautioned that the region might be seeing a relapse similar to Europe. Canada′s Yukon and Northwest territories have witnessed a two- to three-fold surge in new cases over the last week, stated the agency. Central America has seen a 37% decline in new infections. In South America, all countries, except Brazil, Suriname and Venezuela, are registering a surge in COVID-19 incidence.
