It is unethical to disclose the identity of a patient. Identity of a person is protected health information and should not be disclosed.

All patients have a right to confidentiality. The NABH/DMAI Patients’ Charter provides the right to privacy during examination and treatment to the patient.

The WMA 2005 Declaration of Lisbon on the Rights of the Patient also corroborates this and states “All identifiable information about a patients health status, medical condition, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment and all other information of a personal kind must be kept confidential, even after death.”
