India registered a drop of 8.7% in COVID-19 cases in the week ending Sunday, compared to a decline of 3.3% in the previous week.

The country recorded less than 56,000 new infections in the current week, from December 6-12, which is the lowest weekly figure in around 19 months since mid-May 2020. India reported 61,149 new COVID cases last week, with a slow rate of decline. However, this week, the numbers have shown a steep decline. Kerala registered the biggest drop in absolute terms, with 28,684 cases reported this week, compared to 32,212 infections recorded in the previous week.
