  • Young-onset diabetes is increasingly recognized in India.
  • Type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus contribute to the bulk of the burden - type 2 gradually overtaking in an urban setup.
  • Other conditions in the spectrum (MODY, secondary, syndromic forms) need to be considered based on: Clinical features (history, examination), Minimalistic approach – C-peptide, autoantibodies, pancreas (CT) may be required at some points to delineate, Genetic testing for rarer conditions-individualize-refer appropriately, Most importantly-counsel and follow-up closely.
