India registered more than 13,000 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, with a steep rise of 44% over the previous day’s figures.

Daily infections increased over two-fold in just two days, at a growth rate faster than ever witnessed during the pandemic in India. By late night on Wednesday, the country had logged 13,155 fresh COVID-19 infections during the day, while data from two states was still awaited. The numbers on Tuesday stood at 9,155, with a rise of around 47% over the previous day’s tally of 6,242, according to TOI’s COVID database. On each of these two days, fresh COVID cases increased by over 40%.
