There are a few exceptions wherein emergency medical intervention is administered without informed consent. Informed consent may not be required in emergency situations, where a delay in treatment in order to obtain consent, could cause harm to the patient. Additionally, if the doctor believes that the patients emotional and physical condition could be affected unfavorably by full disclosure of the treatment risks, disclosure may be legally withheld.
