Gliptins or DPP-IV inhibitors are highly safe and efficacious oral, inexpensive antidiabetic agents.They are one of the most preferred second-line agents when there is a compelling need to reduce hypoglycemia or reduce the cost of therapy.
Not only is the risk of hypoglycemia very low to negligent with gliptins but they are also weighted neutral.Most gliptins are CV safe too.
They make an ideal choice of drug for especially the elderly and may be used in mild-to-moderate renal and hepatic disease too with dose modifications.
