The World Hypertension Day is observed annually on May 17 since 2005, when it was first held. The day is organized by World Hypertension League (WHL), an affiliated section of the International Society of Hypertension (ISH). The aim is to promote awareness of hypertension amongst the public and to encourage citizens of all countries to prevent and control high blood pressure.

I will like to state that Indian Society of Hypertension was the first society affiliated to WHL and ISH. I have been the witness to see the participation of Dr S. Vajpeyee in the conferences and many (may be more than 50) participated in such conference abroad. I wish collectively both societies from India work together to bring out actual Hypertension data from India along with programs hypertension prevention India. Currently, I am in Delhi as the Vice Chancellor of Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University.
