What is the punishment for violation of doctor-pharma relationship?

There is no rule as such. The following are under consideration in the proposed "Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) (Amendment) Regulations 2010" yet to be notified.

  1. Gifts / Travel / Expenses / Cash Hospitality: up to 5000 (censure); up to 10,000 (3 months suspension); up to 50,000 (6 months suspension); Up to 1 lac (1 year suspension), over 1 lac (more than 1 year suspension).
  2. Violation of regulation regarding pharma sponsored medical research: First time censure, thereafter removal from medical register for period dependent on violation.
  3. Violation of regulation regarding affiliation with Pharma Company: First time censure, thereafter removal from medical register for period dependent on violation.
  4. Violation of professional autonomy while dealing with Pharma Company: First time censure, thereafter removal from medical register.
  5. Any public endorsement of drug / product: First time censure, thereafter removal from medical register.
