Obesity and weight gain are risk factors for fibrosis progression in NAFLD
Obesity and weight gain are independently associated with increased risk of progression of fibrosis in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), as per a prospective cohort study of 40,700 adults published July 15, 2018 in Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. The study suggests that maintaining a normal healthy weight and preventing weight gain may help reduce fibrosis progression in patients with NAFLD.
