Children with inflammatory bowel disease have higher risk of mortality

Children who develop inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis or Crohns disease) have an increased risk of death, both in childhood and later in life, says a study published online Oct. 17, 2018 in the journal Gastroenterology. Children who developed IBD before the age of 18 had a three to five-fold higher mortality rate than people without IBD, both during childhood and into adulthood.
