Study identifies risk factors for fulminant C. difficile infection after cardiac surgery

A single-center, retrospective cohort study published online Sept. 27, 2018 in BMC Anesthesiology has identified type 2 diabetes mellitus, pre-operative ventilation, utilization of more than 8 units of red blood cell concentrates or of more than 5 fresh-frozen plasma units and a cross-clamp time > 130 min as predictors of a fulminant Clostridium difficile infection.
