According to sources, a critically ill 4-year child was taken to the men’s wing of the hospital, where pediatricians were available. However, instead of stabilizing the child, her family was sent to the women’s wing, from where the child was sent back.

The Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of the men’s wing at the government hospital, Dr Kamlendra Swaroop Gupta has been suspended after the death of the four-day-old girl. Departmental proceedings have also been initiated against Dr Alka Sharma, CMS, women’s wing.

This incident of shuttling a critically ill girl took place at a government hospital in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The family alleged they were made to run from one wing of the hospital to another for over three hours without any medical help, which became the cause for the death of the child.

Women’s department chief told that there were no beds available; the women’s wing has four beds with eight children on them. However, Dr Gupta, head of the men’s department has said that he had given clear orders for all patients to be admitted, the patient kept wandering in the hospital, but did not go to the emergency ward. He further said, “Had she visited the emergency, we could have saved the girl.”
