Resident Doctors Association protest as Safdarjung hospital doctors were brutally manhandledby patient's kin

On Thursday, the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) at the Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi went on strike in afternoon after two resident doctors were violentlybattered by the family members of a patient who died during treatment.

The two doctors, from the medicine department, were on duty when the mishap took place around 1.30 pm. The deceased patient was diagnosed with chronic alcoholic liver disease and other medical issues.

Dr Prakash Thakur, RDA President, Safdarjung Hospital, said that they immediately went on strikeafter the incident. Though, will resume work on Friday as the hospital authority has promised to consider their request. They are demanding ‘one bed one patient’ system or it will be very difficult to provide proper care to patients.

The victims had sustained injuries on their face, head, back, abdomen and limbs. Dr. Thakur said that a group of 10 people attacked the two doctors on duty.
