What are the common challenges in managing hypertension with CKD?

There is a strong association between CKD and high blood pressure (BP); each can cause or aggravate the other. BP control is an essential part of the care of patients with CKD. BP reduction when achieved using agents that interfere with the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), can damage kidney function and cause albuminuria.

Hence, it is important to exercise caution while managing high BP in CKD patients. Intensive BP-lowering in patients with CKD calls for the addition of at least one new antihypertensive agent. ARBs seem to be well-tolerated agents and have well-known renoprotective effects.
