  • For a patient on hemodialysis (HD) × 10 years with tunneled cuffed catheter (TCC); this is an unusual complication of TCC. One should not take TCCs lightly, especially in those patients who do not have alternative vascular access.
  • Timely diagnosis of the problem and appropriate intervention is necessary.
  • We started with a question: Chronic dialysis catheter - is that an answer for all ESRD patients?
  • Probable answer:

o Yes, in all patients initiating HD and arteriovenous fistula (AVF) not in place!

o Yes, in those patients who have exhausted all other sites for creation of AVF/ arteriovenous graft.
