Girl develops necrosis on lower lip after 'wrong' injection in Odisha

The lower lip of a 25-year-old girl developed necrosis after she was allegedly administered a wrong injection at the ENT department of VIMSAR, Burla in Odisha. On Monday, the matter came to light after the brother of the girl Banita complained about this matter to the Superintendent of VIMSAR.

On January 22, Budhadeb Duari of Burla said he had brought his sister Banita to the ENT department after she complained of swelling on her lower lip. The doctors administered an injection on her lower lip due to which she complained of severe pain and became unconscious. Then, the doctors admitted her to the indoor of ENT department and guaranteed him that she would recover. But, her condition worsened further and her lower lip got damaged.

The doctors have referred her to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for plastic surgery. The Superintendent of VIMSAR, Jayashree Dora said the patient had come for the treatment of hemangioma. She could have developed idiosyncratic reaction due to the sclerotic agent that was administered to her. She said that a committee has been formed to investigate into the matter on the accusation of the wrong injection.
