Even on a holiday, a doctor is never off-duty. On Friday, a doctor realized this while flying from Delhi to Guwahati when a medical emergency arose on the flight of Spice-Jet Airways. He rose to the occasion and saved the co-passenger’s life.

Dr Jego Oriwas on his way to Guwahati from New Delhi in a Spice Jet flight, after returning from Dubai-Abu Dabhi tour. He is the branch honorary Secretary of The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Arunachal.

After hearing an announcement of the medical emergency from the flight crew, Dr Ori without wasting any time went ahead to the front seat where a family from Noida was also travelling to Guwahati to visit their relatives, and their son was feeling breathlessness.

The child had some cardiac disorder since childhood, his mother informed. He was cyanosed and breathless. His pulse was also feeble. Dr Ori, asked the crew members to give him oxygen and to keep him in forward position. They requested Dr Ori to sit with the boy and after some time the child felt better. Ori said that it was his first service tothe distress family in sky.

The crew members offered their gratitude to Dr Ori and also nominated him as the most favorite passenger of the day and offered him to select any gift item which he of course refused. Dr Ori said that it was his duty to help a family in suffering being a doctor.

To mention, recently Dr Ori, an ENT surgeon at TomoRiba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) was awarded the prestigious ‘Tamrapatra’ by the IMA in Madhya Pradesh.

Dr Ori has requested Spice Jet authorities to keep a portable pulse oximeter to monitor pulse and oxygen saturation level of such patient with the emergency medicines.
