WHO states that novel coronavirus does not spread through air

On Monday, the World Health Organization’s (WHO) South-East Asia office said that the novel coronavirus does not spread through air. But, it has been a reported that a possibility of aerosol transmission is possible in a comparatively closed environment with persistent exposure.

The statement released by the WHO office states that "Airborne spread has not been reported for #COVID19. Chinese authorities have reported the probability of aerosol transmission in a comparatively closed environment with prolonged exposure like ICUs-CCUs in hospitals, but more data analysis is required to realize and understand this information.

Dr Poonam Singh, Regional Director of WHO, Southeast Asia, said that airborne or aerial spread is not reported yet for COVID-19. As per the information received till now and on their experience with other coronaviruses, COVID-19 seems to mostly spread through respiratory droplets and close contact. Hence, WHO recommends hand and respiratory hygiene.
