16 people dead in 24 hours while Tamil Nadu records 102 Covid-19 cases, India reaches 3,000 mark

On Friday, India reported 16 coronavirus deaths, which is the highest single-day death count since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. The total death count has reached to 85, while the number of coronavirus cases has crossed the 3,000-mark with 3,082 confirmed cases. More than 500 new cases were reported from the states.

Three deaths in Maharashtra, 2 each in Delhi and Telangana, and one each in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Haryana and Gujarat.

On Friday, 502 number of confirmed cases were just a bit lower than the previous day’s count of 544, which was the highest single-day count till now. Almost 280 cases were of those of Tablighi Jamaat delegates who had attended the Nizamuddin congregation or their primary contacts.

Health ministry officials said that almost 647 of coronavirus cases in the past 2 days reported from 14 states and Union territories are related to the Jamaat meet. This event has led to a major blow to the advances made from lockdown and social distancing steps.

The positive cases relate to Jamaat were reported from Delhi, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, UP, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand.

The highest number of positive cases were reported from Tamil Nadu – 102. Out of the total 80 cases reported by Telangana, 78 cases were linked to TJ while 42 cases from UP’s 48 cases were related to the Nizamuddin meet.

Maharashtra continues to be on the top of the chart with 25 deaths and 490 confirmed coronavirus cases.

The southern states of India and Delhi are the worst affected states by the Jamaat meet. 116 of the total 229 cases in Telangana are related to the event and in Andhra Pradesh, 140 cases of the total 161 cases are also related to the Jammat meet. In Tamil Nadu, out of the total 411 cases, 364 are related to the Jammat meet.
