India has recorded 3,500+ COVID-19 cases in a day and has overtaken China

India has reached to the 11th position among countries with the highest number of reported coronavirus cases. On Friday, India overtook China’s official count, as new cases from across the country remained more than 3,500 for 6th consecutive day.

Most of the states have reported a total of 3,787 new cases, taking India’s total count of COVID-19 cases to 85,786. China, the origin of virus, has officially reported 84,031 cases. India’s death count was 105, after dropping to 99 on Thursday.

Maharashtra, reported 1,576 new infections and continued to lead, followed by Tamil Nadu with 434 cases, Delhi with 425 cases, Gujarat with 340 cases and Rajasthan with 213 cases.

More positively, India has not seen any new peak in daily number of cases for 5 days after hitting a high of 4,308 on 10th May. This was almost twice the average over the last month, as daily cases were touching a new high every 3 days. On Friday, Maharashtra added 1,576 new cases. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state has reached the 29,000 mark with 29,100 cases. Maharashtra also reported 49 deaths on Friday, the third highest deaths registered in a single day. With 933 new cases on Friday, Mumbai recorded its 2nd highest single day addition, taking the count to 17,671 cases. 34 of the 49 deaths were recorded alone in Mumbai.

Tamil Nadu’s coronavirus count has reached the 10,000 mark on Friday with 434 people tested positive. Out of them 309 cases are from Chennai. The states death count rose to 71, with 5 more fatalities. Chennai has more than half the total number of cases in the state with 5,946 cases till Friday.

Delhi too continued to show a rise in coronavirus infections, as the state government announced 425 new cases, taking the total count to 8,895 cases. The capital reported 8 deaths as the total count from the coronavirus reached to 123.

Also, new cases in Rajasthan spiked to 213. Out of these, 23 cases are from Jaipur. Madhya Pradesh also continued to register 187 COVID-19 cases on Friday, as Indore has high number of cases.

In Gujarat, the number of new cases remained steady around 350 over the last few days. The state recorded 340 cases on Friday, with the total count at 9,932.

In Odisha and Jharkhand, migrants who returned are the main source of infections, as Odisha added 48 and Jharkhand 12 to their coronavirus cases. Jharkhand has reported 100 new cases in the last 11 days as tests results of these migrants were revealed. The state’s count of positive cases stands at 215.

Uttar Pradesh, which is the main destination of returned migrants, reported 159 new cases. A large number of cases were among those who had recently returned to east UP from various states.
