Pune: New data from the August sero-prevalence study, carried out in five sub-wards of Pune by the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune University and other collaborators, suggest that 85% of the 700 individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 that were studied had virus-neutralizing antibodies following the infection.

This is the first time in India or in other lower income and lower-middle income countries across the world that such a research has been done to determine the extent of neutralizing antibodies in the population that may offer protection during subsequent infections. According to Dr Aurnab Ghose, scientist, IISER and one of the principal investigators of the study, previous findings had revealed the presence of antibodies suggesting past COVID-19 infection, but those antibodies did not necessarily point to the possibility of protection from subsequent infection… (ET Healthworld – TOI, November 21, 2020)
