The Indian Medical Association has advised and urged their 3.5 lakh members from 1, 800 local branches to get immunized and confirm to the world that COVID-19 vaccines are effective and safe.

Indian Medical Association’s National President, Dr J A Jayalal, in a statement said that the association had decided to participate actively in COVID-19 immunization programme following extensive review of scientific information, expert panel reports, indexed articles and consultation experts.

He said that enough protective levels of antibodies are found to produce with Indian vaccines against the current strain and new mutated strains of coronavirus. These vaccines are easy to store and can also be used in Indian conditions.

The IMA is certain that after taking the vaccination, it not only protects the individual but will also bring herd immunity in the community thus raising the hope to manage and control the coronavirus pandemic.

They have also asked their district officials to offer help in the planning and implementation of the immunization programme. The association headquarters that is in New Delhi has founded a pharma covigilance centre for monitoring post vaccination reactions or events and providing appropriate support.
