Quality and Safety of Acute Cardiovascular Care in India

  1. The quality/safety challenges in India are the lack of national coordination for improving quality and safety (who will lead?), out of pocket health expenditures (who will pay) and underdeveloped healthcare infrastructure, systems and personnel in many parts of the country (who will build or train).
  2. Insights from the Indian registries have shown that: Higher mortality is likely to be attributed to wide variability of optimal medical care. Quality improvement programs showed improvements in hospital and discharge medications but not in the rate of 30-day MACE after accounting for temporal trends. The intervention may have been effective in settings where the baseline quality of care is not as high.
