WHO announces China as malaria-free

China has attained a milestone in containing malaria, as the country has registered zero malaria cases for over four years in a row. 

World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized this achievement and has officially certified China as malaria-free. The Asia Pacific Leaders Malaria Alliance (APLMA), the Asia Pacific Malaria Elimination Network (APMEN) and the RBM Partnership to End Malaria also welcomed the country’s contributions to the fight against malaria. They mentioned that the number of malaria deaths and cases have nearly halved in countries in the Asia Pacific region. They added that there has been considerable progress towards the goal of eliminating malaria by 2030.
