Thailand set to mix vaccine doses as cases surge

Thailand has modified its vaccine policy to mix Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine with the AstraZeneca vaccine in an attempt to enhance protection against COVID-19.

The move came after hundreds of medical workers caught the infection despite being fully vaccinated with Sinovac vaccine. Now, instead of two Sinovac doses, people will be given the AstraZeneca shot after the first Sinovac dose. Fully vaccinated health workers with Sinovac will now receive a booster dose from a different vaccine. This can be either the AstraZeneca vaccine or the Pfizer/BioNTech one. The booster dose will be given three to four weeks following the second Sinovac shot, stated Thailand’s National Infectious Disease Committee… (BBC, July 12, 2021)
