Pune doctor arrested for installing camera in room of his female colleague

Dr Sujit Abajirao Jagtap (42 years) from a well-known hospital in Pune was arrested on Tuesday for installing cameras in the accommodation of a female doctor, aged 30 years. A local court has remanded Dr Jagtap for two days in police custody.

Senior police inspector, Jagannath Kalaskar from Bharati Vidyapeeth police station said that the bulb in the bath room wasn’t working so the women called an electrician and he found a camera. Few things got recorded, however they caught it the day it was installed.

The police then examined the camera and found that the model was available only on Amazon. 

The order was backtracked through Amazon and it was found that Dr Jagtap who had purchased it in the past few days. Kalaskar said that the resident doctor and the accused doctor, who is a senior neurologist and teacher, were working together. He had stolen her keys and made duplicate ones. He then installed the camera in her room. The doctor has a wife and children but was attracted to the victim, said the police.

Dr Jagtap has done his post-doctoral fellowship in epilepsy and he is specialized in neurology. He also works as a consultant teacher in a well-known hospital and also teaches medical students at two other well-known hospitals.

The female doctor was staying with a colleague in the accommodation provided to resident doctors of the hospital. She mentioned in her complaint that she noticed something unusual about the light bulb in her bathroom and bedroom.

A case is registered under applicable Section 443 (lurking house-trespass) of Indian Penal Code with Section 66(e) of Information Technology Act, 2000 at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station on 7th July.
