Coronavirus will not mutate dramatically in coming months, says AIIMS chief

The chief of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, Dr Randeep Guleria, has said that the virus is not expected to mutate “dramatically” in the coming few months.

As experts claim that the third wave in India is expected by August-end or September, Dr Guleria said that the emergence of the third wave depends on our behavior. He added that COVID-appropriate behavior such as preventing crowding, besides other measures, can delay the third wave in the country as well as the severity of the third wave. He further stated that the virus is not likely to mutate very dramatically over the next few months. According to the latest serosurvey, a reasonably good amount of immunity exists in the population now. Therefore, till the time the majority of the population gets vaccinated, people should avoid crowded places, non-essential travel, and must maintain COVID-appropriate behavior… (ET Healthworld – ANI, July 24, 2021)
