Locally manufactured one-dose Sputnik Light vaccine is set to be rolled out in India in September.

Panacea Biotec has submitted the documents to seek emergency use authorization for the vaccine to the drug regulator, revealed sources. The vaccine will be available in limited quantities to begin with and is likely to cost around Rs 750.

The country’s vaccination program has until now been using the imported two-dose Sputnik V vaccine, rolled out by Dr Reddy′s.

Supply shortages of Sputnik V are expected to be be resolved by month-end. A complete rollout of Sputnik V was with held as the vaccine imports from Russia were affected in June.

A spokesperson for Dr Reddy’s said that they were working with their partners in India for manufacturing readiness. It is expected that locally manufactured doses will be available from September-October.

Sputnik Light has shown an efficacy of around 80%, as per data obtained 28 days after administering the jab in a trial in Russia, stated Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
