The clinical applications of MRI include renal infections, pyonephrosis vs. hydronephrosis. MRA is useful for evaluation of renal tumors, RAS/RVT, kidney donor evaluation, cystic/hemorrhagic renal disease and assessment of renal functions. Noncontrast MR angiograms provide diagnostic quality images and should be used more often in the clinical setting of renal failure or where contrast is indicated. MRI assessment of renal function is feasible and separate assessment of GFR from right and left kidney/TX kidney is possible.
