Most Omicron cases in US have been mild, most were vaccinated: CDC

Most of the 43 people confirmed to have been infected with the Omicron variant in the United States have been reported to have had mild symptoms, but most of them had been vaccinated, and 14 had already received booster doses, stated the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The first report from the CDC on the Omicron variant suggests that vaccination does not protect against infection; however, it shows that the first cases to be detected have been mild or moderate.

The CDC COVID Response Team stated that one vaccinated individual was hospitalized for 2 days, but no deaths have been reported so far. It further said that as per case investigations, exposures have been linked with international and domestic travel, large public events, as well as household transmission.

Additionally, the team said that around 79% of the infected people had been fully vaccinated with either two doses of Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccine or one dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Furthermore, 5 out of the 14 who had received booster doses had been boosted at least two weeks prior and should have had maximum immune protection… (CNN, December 10, 2021)
