The Turbhe MIDC Police has arrested 60-year-old BR Yadav, a resident of Airoli who impersonated as a doctor and practised medicine illegally at a clinic in the city, on Tuesday immediately after an NMMC medical officer Dr Kailas Gaikwad files an FIR against him.

Investigating officer API Pankaj Ghatkar said that Yadav was arrested under relevant IPC sections for cheating by personation, dishonesty and forgery along with the Medical Practitioners Act, 1961. The Vashi JMFC court on Wednesday,  sent Yadav to the magistrate custody remand as he was arrested under non-bailable offences.

Dr Gaikwad complained that in 2010, BR Yadav along with other bogus doctors was booked, but due to lack of substantial evidence, BR Yadav was acquitted by the court. After release Yadav was illegally practising medicine at his Turbhe clinic for the past 11 years. BR Yadav had a BSc RMP (Registered Medical Practioner) letter issued by the Maharashtra Council of Indian Medicine for practising as a doctor in rural areas, where no other registered doctor practices. But he had misused the letter and started practising as a doctor in NMMC jurisdiction, which is not a rural area and does not come under gram panchayat after the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation was established in 1995.
