Health officials at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) reported that around 50 doctors in AIIMS tested Covid-19 positive and were in isolation. Doctors from different departments including neurosurgery, gynaecology, anesthesia, medicine, microbiology and pediatrics were falling sick because of the virus. Around 8-10 doctors in the neurosurgery department of the institution were infected due to which the remaining doctors were working more than 36 hours. 11 doctors from the pediatrics department have tested positive. Moreover, a few of the consultant doctors have also been infected by the virus.

A resident doctor said that there were 30-40 symptomatic doctors who had kept themselves in isolation, but still the hospital had not issued any standard operating procedure for the doctors.

In other instances, doctors from other major government hospitals have tested positive for the virus. These included around 22 doctors at Safdarjung Hospital, at least 4 doctors in Lok Nayak Hospital, about 20 doctors at Ram Manohar Lohia, and around 15 doctors at Lady Harding Medical College (LHMC). These doctors have isolated themselves and showed mild symptoms. They were taking the required medicines in quarantine.

A senior doctor told with a concerning note that there were doctors who were not infected in the first and second wave, but got infected now due to their lost immunity.

With rising cases, Delhi recorded 4,099 fresh Covid-19 cases on Monday with the positivity rate at 6.46 per cent. Official sources from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) told on Tuesday that more restrictions could be imposed to control the spread of the infections.
