A booster dose of Baharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin, administered 6 months after the primary vaccine series, has been reported to effectively neutralize both Omicron and Delta variants of the coronavirus in a study conducted at Emory University.

Bharat Biotech said that the study was conducted using a live virus neutralization assay and it was found that the booster dose of Covaxin evoked strong neutralizing antibody responses against Omicron and Delta. The company stated that 100% of test serum samples exhibited neutralization of the Delta variant and over 90% of samples showed neutralization of Omicron. Additionally, the neutralization potential of sera boosted by Covaxin was found to be comparable to that seen with mRNA vaccine-boosted sera against the Omicron variant.

The study will soon be published on the pre-print server, medRXiv… (TOI – TNN, January 12, 2022)
